THE PROJECT SET IN THE NEIGHBOORHOOD OF VAN NUYS LOS ANGELES IT BLENDS IN BY TAKING ON A LOW PROFILE DESIGN ALLOWING IT TO NOT STAND OUT. THROUGH THE USE OF TILE, WOOD SLATS, AND STUCCO THE FACADE DESIGN IS MEANT TO KEEP THE BUILDING COOL DURING THE HOT SUMMERS. FUTHERMORE, THE WINDOW POSITION ALLOWS FOR CROSS VENTILATION TO HELP ALLIVIATE NATRUALLY THE HEAT INTAKE DURING THE SUMMER. AS TO THE COLD AND WET SEASON THE BUILDING’S TALL WINDOWS AND POSITIONS ALLOW FOR ROOMS TO GARNER HEAT THROUGHOUT FALL AND WINTER.
THE TWO BUILDINGS IN UNISON HAVE A COMBINE SPACE OF 5 UNITS. WHILE THE DESIGN CONSIDERS THE USERS OF INTERACTION WITH THE BUILDING FROM LIGHT, CROSS VENTILATION, HEAT INTAKE, AND SHADE. THE PROJECT DOES GIVE THE USERS LARGE ENOUGH ROOMS FOR THEIR PRIVATE QUATERS, AS WELL AS SHARED SPACES. THE PUBLIC SPACES WITHIN THE BUILDING HAVE AN OPEN SPACE DISTRIBUTION OF THE LIVING ROOM, DINING AREA, AND KITCHEN TO BE ABLE TO HOST LARGER GATHERINGS.
